ATLANTA, GA — City of Atlanta voters now have until 8 p.m. Tuesday to cast their ballots in the 2025 general election, the Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said.

The time change impacts 81 polling locations and came after city officials sued Fulton and DeKalb counties to extend the voting time.

“We will not let anyone reduce access to voting in elections," Dickens said in a news release. "Not this year, next year nor 2028."

Polls usually open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. in statewide elections, but a judge ruled Atlanta officials can keep polls open an hour longer.

With the update, Atlanta residents who do not arrive at their polling locations by 7 p.m. will not be able to vote in the Public Service Commission special election and will be mandated to vote using provisional ballots, Dickens said.

“I am very happy that the superior court judge followed the existing law and granted our motion to keep the additional hour, to which the voters of the City of Atlanta are entitled,” City Attorney Patrise Perkins-Hooker said in the release.

The race for mayor and several city council positions are on the ballot in Atlanta. Dickens is aiming to keep his seat against three challengers, and Atlanta City Council member Marci Collier Overstreet is up against Rohit Malhotra for council president.
