Watch: Police Release Video Of East Point Rapist

Footage shows man leading lost woman through grassy area, moments before attack, police say.

ATLANTA, GA -- Law enforcement officials are asking the public's help in identifying a man accused of raping a woman in East Point.

Police on Friday released surveillance video of the man leading the woman away from the East Point MARTA station. The video is grainy and only seconds-long, but police hope someone may be able to recognize the suspect by his gait.

The woman, who was lost, asked the man for directions and followed him through a grassy trail on Feb. 23 after he told her that he knew a short cut.

Once they happened upon an abandoned building, that's when he attacked, the woman told police, WGCL reports.

The woman was brutally beaten in the attack, which has shocked neighborhood residents.

The video footage shows the suspect and victim about 30 minutes before she called 911, according to WSB-TV.

Police earlier this week released a sketch of the rapist, described as wearing braids, a goatee and being 5'9"-6' tall. The man told the victim that he was 27 years old and homeless, police said.

If you recognize this suspect or think you may have seen him in the East Point area, please call Crime Stoppers at 404 577-TIPS(8477).
