Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- The Fulton County Board of Health will be spraying three areas of Atlanta after mosquitoes that were tested came back positive for the West Nile virus. Positive results came back from areas like Brown Middle School, the Atlanta BeltLine, Grant Park, and Washington Park. The county will be spraying within a half mile of where tests came back positive. (Reporter Newspapers)
- The Atlanta Watershed Management Department has launched a water bill program to help residents with past due bills. The F.L.O.A.T. program will increase flexibility for seniors and fixed-income populations with things like account adjustments, interest-free payment plans, and more. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- The Atlanta Police Department and Mayor Andrea Dickens have implemented the Operation Shield program through thousands of public and private cameras. The program sends real-time images to a central office where officers are stationed to keep watch and help keep the city safe amid rising crime and gun violence. (Reporter Newspapers)
- The Georgia Department of Public Health has begun distributing monkeypox vaccines amid rising cases in the state. While vaccines are available in the state, Fulton County doesn't currently offer a way to make an appointment online to receive a vaccine. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Atlanta's Emory Hospital has been ranked No. 1 by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital, and its sibling hospitals, have been ranked best in Georgia for the 11th year in a row. (Decaturish.com )
