"Malachi (Chaney) can feel all the love & prayers. He’s really fighting hard. The swelling on his face is finally starting to go down. This is going to be a very long journey to recovery. Me & Wife can feel the love & the prayers. ... The Chaney’s are definitely going to need therapy," Tray Chaney wrote in an Instagram post published Friday.
He seemingly expressed being in emotional pain during an update posted shortly after 3 p.m. Friday.
Five years ago, his home was built from the ground up; and now, it is gone. The only thing he was able to retrieve from the home was his cell phone.
Tray Chaney and son Malachi Chaney first shared time together around 11 a.m. Thursday during a radio interview on "The Big Tigger Morning Show."
But by 3 p.m., the elder Chaney said his house was lying on top of him, and his son had been thrown into the woods. The actor said he felt the wind and "everything."
"A tornado hit my house, and me and my son experienced it from start to finish," Tray Chaney in an Instagram post published Friday. "I was unconscious on the ground with my face in the mud with my parts of my house on top of me. I woke up in a panic, crawled from under my house, screaming my son's name out."
Tray Chaney said he had a knot on his head, and he was vomiting at the time.
With the help of neighbors, Malachi Chaney was found 300 feet behind the house in a wood line and is now in the intensive care unit, his father said.
In an Instagram video, fighting through tears and showing his home crumbled on the ground, Tray Chaney said he walked away with a bruise.
"I can't get myself together, right now," he said in a post. "I wish it was me that was in ICU rather than him. ... Please cherish life. Hug your loved ones now. Life just changed for me and mine. We'll never be the same. I understand God don't make mistakes, and I'm (going) to do my best to stay as strong as I can."
