$25K Reward Offered In Shooting Death Of Doctor In Brookhaven

The 31-year-old man died in January 2022, when he was found in his bed with a single gunshot wound to his head.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — The reward in the January 2022 shooting death of Dr. Matthew Wilson, 31, has increased to $25,000, Brookhaven Police said Friday.

Around 2 a.m., Jan. 16, 2022, officers were called to the 3600 block of Buford Highway after receiving reports that multiple shots had been fired from apartments.

While patrol officers were checking the surrounding area, a call came into the 911 center regarding a man being shot in an apartment located in the 3100 block of Clairmont Road.

When officers arrived, they found Willson, of Chertsey, Surrey, England, lying in his bed with a single gunshot wound to the head, police said. Officers assisted with rendering aide until paramedics arrived on scene.

Willson was taken to a local trauma center, where he died of his injuries, police said.

11Alive reported Wilson was in Brookhaven to visit loved ones. At the time of his death, police told the outlet the shooting appeared to be random, noting someone had "recklessly" fired a gun.

The bullet went through a wall into the headboard, striking Wilson in the back of his head, according to a past 11Alive report.

Willson's family and friends have pledged additional funds towards the reward for information
leading to the arrest of the individuals responsible, police said.
