Arrest Made In DeKalb Man's Shooting Death

An argument led to the shooting death of a DeKalb County man, and police said they have arrested the accused gunman.

BROOKHAVEN, GA — A man is facing murder charges in connection with the shooting death of another man Sunday at a Brookhaven apartment.

Brookhaven Police said Carlos Meza Ignacio, 31, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. Monday after officers saw him walking along Hickory Road in Chamblee.

He was taken into custody without incident in connection with the fatal shooting of Herrardo Cruz Cortez around 2:45 a.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Buford Highway, police said.

Ignacio and Cortez had been drinking together inside an apartment at the time of the shooting, police said. While they were drinking, police said an argument sparked regarding Ignacio's suspected possession of a firearm.

He was accused of then shooting Cortez, who died of his injuries, police said.

Ignacio was arrested on charges of murder, first-degree and third-degree cruelty to children, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and criminal damage to property, police said. He remains in custody at the DeKalb County Jail, police said.
