Brookhaven Gets Nod To Buy 1.7 Acres Of Green Space
DeKalb Commissioner Nancy Jester vows to back Brookhaven's purchase with money from the county's 2001 Parks Bond Fund.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Brookhaven got a much-needed nod of approval this week in its bid to buy nearly 2 acres of green space near Murphey Candler Park.
DeKalb Commissioner Nancy Jester vowed to back Brookhaven's purchase with money from the county's parks bond fund.
βPreserving natural greenspace is a tall order in District 1, as land values are high due to the demand for development,β Jester said in a statement. βThis purchase is an effective use of Park Bond funds as it helps preserve nature near Murphey Candler Park, one of the greatest recreational areas in DeKalb. I am excited for this project and plan to put it before the DeKalb Board of Commissioners for approval at the next opportunity.β

The 1.7-acre property has been appraised at $353,400, which is what its sales price will be, the city said.
βAny time the City can expand its greenspace holdings we should, in keeping with the vision of the Comprehensive Plan,β said Brookhaven Mayor John Ernst. βItβs even better when we can do it in a partnership, which mitigates the budgetary impact to the City. The City of Brookhaven is grateful for Commissioner Jesterβs support.β
