BROOKHAVEN, GA -- The city's alcohol hearing officer said Wednesday Hudson Grille owes Brookhaven more than $10,000 in unpaid alcohol excise taxes. According to the city, Brookhaven conducted an excise tax audit of all of its 77 establishments licensed for on-premises alcohol consumption between Jan. 2016 and March 2018. Of those, the city said 13 were initially found to have underpaid their taxes.

Also on Wednesday, the city suspended the alcohol license of the Medusa nightclub effective Friday, April 26.

In a letter dated April 5, Brookhaven CFO Steve Chapman stated the notice, “will serve as the administrative act requiring the indefinite suspension of your alcohol license until such time that the past due amount of $32,240.29 is paid.”

“Since the time to appeal has expired, and Medusa has not paid their taxes due, the City’s only recourse is to suspend the license,” said Chapman.

In a similar case, Hudson Grille appealed before Brookhaven’s new hearing officer. On April 17, Alcoholic Beverage Hearing Officer William Linkous concluded Hudson Grille immediately owes $10,132.92 in back excise taxes.
