Brookhaven OKs Record $4.7M Paving Contract

Brookhaven City Council approved a $4.72 million road paving contract.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Brookhaven's roads and pathways are in the midst of some serious upgrading. The Brookhaven City Council approved a $4.72 million road-paving contract, a record for the city.

The project is one of many improvements that have been earmarked in the city in recent weeks.

β€œMaintaining our road infrastructure, after many years of neglect, is a crucial factor for the long-term success of Brookhaven, City Manager Christian Sigman said in a statement. β€œIt’s a quality of life issue for our residents, it’s a public safety issue for first responders, and it’s an economic development issue for our business community.”

The city says that when all the resurfacing, rehab or reconstruction planned in 2017 is completed, nearly 28% of the city's roads will be less than 4 years old.

β€œRoad paving is one of the bedrock services of local government. It’s very satisfying to get into high gear in addressing the backlog that’s on the books,” Mayor John Ernst said in a statement.

β€œUntil now, it’s been mostly light resurfacing. This contract allows us to delve deeper into more comprehensive road rehabilitations and road reconstructions,” he said.
