BROOKHAVEN, GA — The iconic Budweiser Clydesdales are the latest to join Brookhaven's Cherry Blossom Summer Block Party scheduled for this weekend.

The Clydesdales will be part of the festival's Heroes Parade, which will start at noon Saturday and travels from Apple Valley Road to Dresden Drive, down to J. Christopher's and back to the start, according to a news release from the city.

The parade will feature Brookhaven police, Grady EMS, Brookhaven and DeKalb fire personnel, MARTA police, a MARTA bus operator, a respiratory therapist and physician's assistant with COVID Caare, a local restaurant representative and local teachers.

Festival sponsor Eagle Rock Distributing is bringing the Clydesdales to town to support both the community and first responders.

“While most parades celebrate a victory in sports or in war, our ‘Heroes Parade’ will serve as a way to honor those who served and continue to serve on the frontlines of the pandemic,” Mayor John Ernst said in the release. “It also serves as a ‘thank you’ to those who have made getting the COVID-19 vaccine possible so that we can come together. This vaccine is our best way out of the pandemic, and we need to recognize that.”

The block party — scheduled for Friday from 3 to 11 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. — features live music, food trucks and a Kidz Zone, with Collective Soul and The Revivalists headlining the two-day event. The party will be at the Brookhaven MARTA Station parking lot, as well as along Dresden Drive and Apple Valley Road.

Attendees are encouraged to take MARTA or the city's shuttle services as there will be no on-site parking for the event. Masks are required on MARTA and the shuttles per federal mandate, and all bags in the music festival lot must be clear — no exceptions. Pets will not be allowed in the concert lot.
