House Bill 1006, a bill that would allow residents of the Dresden East neighborhood to annex with Chamblee, passed the House Thursday afternoon and is headed to the Senate.
The the House Hopper was introduced by Rep. Elena Parent (D-81), and was voted on only by DeKalb County delegation and will likely reach the Senate clerk's office by the end of today's session.
The bill calls for annexation of the property that would include areas of Chamblee Tucker Road to I-85 S; the Clairmont Road corridor, and the southern portion of Airport Road, Parent said.

The bill also includes a disputed parcel of commercial property - Plaza Fiesta - which is included in the boundary map for the proposed city of Ashford.
The Plaza Fiesta property between Clairmont Road and Buford Highway has been under dispute for months as residents here have argued that Rep. Mike Jacobs (R-80) used the neighborhood's commercial property for the proposed new city, but excluded the residential community in boundaries included in HB 636.

Parent said Jacobs agreed to drop the disputed parcel from HB 636 if the new annexation bill advances.
Jacobs in a phone interview with Patch Thursday afternoon said he is "taking a wait and see approach with regard to HB 1006."
"There is still much legislative process left to go," Jacobs said about both bills.
If the bill passes, the Dresden East community will vote on the referendum in November 2012.
