U.S. Attorney's Office says George S. James is facing 20 years in prison in alleged wire fraud scheme.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- The U.S. Attorney's Office said that an electronic trail of wire fraud has led to the arrest of a Brookhaven man.
George S. James is facing 20 years in prison and a fine of $25,000 after investigators said that he used email to defraud Sedgwick County in Kansas of more than half a million dollars, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit.
Last September, Sedgwick County got an email purported to come from a construction company it did business with requesting payment to a Wells Fargo account in Georgia. After paying the sum, the county found out that the company did not send the correspondence nor did the firm receive the money.

Prosecutors allege that James fraudulently received the $566,000 payment after perpetrating an email "spoofing scheme," according to a criminal complaint cited by U.S. Attorney Tom Beall.
The FBI, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and the Wichita Police Department all cooperated on the case.
