It's Leap Day: Women, Propose to your Man!

Men stock up on gloves.

Leap Day, or Feb. 29, is a day that falls on the calandar every four years making the year 366 days instead of 365.

Leap Day is associated with several traditions since its introduction more than 2,000 years ago. Irish legend suggests that St. Briget struck a deal with St. Patrick to allow women to propose to men on this day. This is believed to have been introduced to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how Leap Day balances the calendar. Men who refused were made to buy the woman 12 pairs of gloves to be worn to hide the embarrasment of not having an engagment rignt.
