License Plate Reader Leads To Suspect's Arrest In Brookhaven

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- From April 15-21, Brookhaven police responded to 1,639 calls which included 127 incident reports, 95 citations, and 19 arrests. Here's a sampling:

Sunday, April 21 – Simple battery, 3500 block of Buford Highway. Two men were involved in a verbal argument about one of them being on the phone while they were hanging out. The argument turned physical and the two began to shove each other. One threatened that he was going to kill the other one. Neither party wanted a report or to pursue charges. Both parties advised they were drinking the entire afternoon. One of them was so intoxicated he could not remember his telephone number. Both parties went back to their apartments to sleep it off.

Sunday, April 21 – Aggravated assault, 1300 block of N. Cliff Valley Way. Police were dispatched to shots fired call. Witnesses said two males were looking at cars in the parking lot. Several people standing outside noticed them and the two males entered a white pickup truck and exited the parking area. Once back to road one of the males got out and fired five shots toward the people outside. No one was hurt and no signs of shots hitting anything was found. Police found five shell casings next to the entrance, which were collected for evidence. One of the witnesses was able to get a picture of the vehicle prior to the getaway.

Friday, April 19 – Burglary, 2100 block of Johnson Ferry Road. The owner closed the restaurant at 11 p.m. the night before and returned in the morning to find the rear door pried open. Video showed a male with long dreadlocks and black pants approaching the door at 5 a.m. The male used a crowbar to pry open the door, entered the restaurant and then left with a bag of the restaurant’s gift cards. The shop owner declined further police investigation.

Thursday, April 18 – Recovered stolen auto, 3300 block of Buford Highway. Police responded to a License Plate Reader hit at Briarwood Road and Northeast Expressway. The 2018 Chevy Malibu was verified as stolen as it headed toward Buford Highway. The vehicle was stopped, and the two occupants were detained. The driver was taken to the DeKalb jail and the passenger was released on the scene.

Tuesday, April 16 – Recovered stolen auto/wanted person located, 3300 block of Buford Highway. Police received a LPR hit regarding a stolen Dodge Ram truck which was located in a parking lot. While impounding the vehicle, a person matching the description of the suspect arrived. The subject provided a false name to police. When he was correctly identified, police discovered previous outstanding warrants. The subject was taken to the DeKalb jail.
