New Non-Profit Vows to Help Brookhaven Buy AEDs
City will match funds from Friends of Brookhaven for life-saving devices.

Thanks to a new Brookhaven non-profit, the city hopes be able to save more lives and money.Β Β
The Friends of Brookhaven Foundation has pledged to raise moneyΒ forΒ portable automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for all Brookhaven Police patrol cars,Β as well as city hall, municipal court and city recreation facilities.Β Β
The city in turn willΒ match each dollar raised. The devices usuallyΒ cost around $1,000.Β Β
βAED devices are life-saving and absolutely necessary in an emergency. If having theseΒ in our public facilities and patrol cars saves at least one life, it will have been worth theΒ cost,β Mayor J. Max Davis said in a press release from the city. βWe are grateful that the city will save on the cost ofΒ purchasing AEDs thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Brookhaven Foundation andΒ those who donate to this cause.βΒ Β
The group plans to present the funds to the city on Dec. 17, its birthday.Β
According to the press release,Β Friends was started by a group of BrookhavenΒ residents to foster a sense of community and enhance quality of life in theΒ city.Β Β
