One Detained After Social Media Threat To Chamblee High School

Officials were alerted to the social media threat around 1 am Wednesday morning.

CHAMBLEE, GA -- One person was detained Wednesday morning after allegedly making an unspecified threat against Chamblee Charter High School. Principal Gail Barnes sent an email to parents Wednesday morning that an unspecified threat had been made against the school. Additional DeKalb County school police have been dispatched to the school.

"The safety and security of our students is paramount in the Dekalb County School District and at Chamblee Charter High School," Barnes said in her email. "There is a threat against the school that is currently being investigated by the DCSD School Police ... Again, the safety and security of your student is paramount."

Later in the morning, Barnes said one person had been detained and that police would maintain an additional presence throughout the rest of the day.

Here is a statement from the DeKalb County school system:

"In the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 17 at approximately 1 a.m., DCSD Public Safety was routed a call that said there was a potential threat posted on social media involving Chamblee Middle and Chamblee High. The Dept. of Public Safety generated a report, dispatched a detective, and began an investigation. As of this morning, a suspect has been detained. As a precaution, extra police are also present at both schools. Parents and community members at both schools have been informed of this incident."
