ATLANTA -- Molly Broder, the widow of a popular Washington, DC-chef who was shot and killed in Historic Brookhaven last year, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against one of Atlanta's oldest, most prestigious country clubs. Last July, Christian Broder was murdered while he and some friends were waiting on an Uber outside the Capital City Country Club following a wedding event. Four men have since been indicted in the shooting, but now Broder's widow is seeking damages, arguing in a lawsuit the club failed to provide adequate security and safety.

According to the lawsuit, filed this week in Fulton County State Court, Capital City Club "negligently failed to act on knowledge of prior crimes, and the surrounding high-crime area, and failed to act to correct, prevent, or warn of prior criminal activity and the dangerous environment of the premises and approaches.”

Police say Broder was one of four people waiting for a ride at about 12:15 a.m. on July 8 when a car pulled up and a man got out, pulled a handgun and demanded their belongings. After stealing items from them, the gunman started heading back to his vehicle, but Broder tried to follow him. That's when the gunman fired once, striking Broder. He then got in the passenger side of the vehicle and the driver pulled away.
