“I am shocked by these numbers,” Starling said when she first presented the figures on Tuesday.
BUC’s service contract was awarded earlier this year to American Coach Lines. At the same time, several other changes were implemented, including simplifying some routes; station upgrades; and changing the look of the buses themselves.

The changes were born out of a 2011 study to make sure the BUC was optimized to cost-effectively provide the best possible service. The changes were designed to increase service frequency during the peak hours of use — weekday morning and afternoon rush hours — by eliminating lunch hour and Saturday service.
One primary route was also connected directly to MARTA rail stations and major employment locations along Peachtree, Piedmont and Lenox Roads.
