Hospital: Red to Raise Awareness of Heart Health

Cartersville Medical Center employees wore red Friday, Feb. 3, in support of National Wear Red Day.  The event, held each year on the first Friday in February, is held nationwide to help raise awareness and fight heart disease.

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, claiming the life of one in three women each year.  Cartersville Medical Center supports the mission of the American Heart Association which is to ensure research and fundraising for lifesaving educational programs and the development of new treatments to fight heart disease.

“We realize that women — mothers, sisters, friends — are dying of heart disease at the rate of one per minute,” said Keith Sandlin, chief executive officer at Cartersville Medical Center. 

Staff representing various hospital departments gathered this morning and formed the shape of a heart for a photo opportunity to raise awareness about heart disease and prevention.  “We believe it is our responsibility as healthcare professionals to help educate the women in our community about heart disease,” said Sandlin. “This is a fun way to engage our employees in helping to promote awareness of heart disease.” 

Cartersville Medical Center is sponsoring its second-annual major heart health community event, “Cartersville Has Heart”, on Saturday, Feb. 18.  The event will feature:

• Free health screenings
• Interactive medical stations with mock emergency exercises
• AmeriHeart℠, the world’s largest interactive, anatomically correct, walk-through inflatable heart exhibit
• AngioScreen:  only $40 (normally $80)
• Local EMS providers
• Heart healthy nutrition information and cooking demonstrations
• Fashion show by Belk
• Fitness demonstrations by Ladies Fitness & Cair Plus Fitness Center
• Food available for purchase by Louie’s Café
