Bartow Board Rebukes Eggert, Apologizes For 'Real Ammo' Post
Terry Lee Eggert's social-media comments "do not represent the views of the board as a whole," according to a statement read Wednesday.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Bartow County’s school board apologized publicly Wednesday night for social-media comments by one of its members suggesting that “real ammo” should be used on Black Lives Matter protesters.
In a statement read by board member Anna Sullivan as reported by WBHF Community Radio, the school board also distanced itself from Terry Lee Eggert, who posted the comment.
“Members of this board wish to make clear that the board does not endorse these comments,” Sullivan read from the statement. “They do not represent the views of the board as a whole nor do they represent the core values of our school system.”

Bartow County’s Black leaders called for Eggert’s resignation after he posted on social media that “real ammo” should be used to stop “this nonsense of looting, attacks on citizens and destruction of property.”
Eggert shot back on Monday, refusing to resign and saying “I will not be intimidated or distracted.”

Bartow County’s school board unanimously approved Wednesday’s statement responding to Eggert, according to WBHF Community Radio. The statement did not name Eggert specifically, but the wording and timing of the statement made its meaning clear.
The school board’s statement said that while no single board member has the power to speak for the whole board, the public may see things otherwise.
“We expect high standards of behavior from our faculty, staff and students, and are deeply saddened that any of our individual actions have failed to meet those standards,” Sullivan read from the statement. “Additionally, we offer a true apology for the negative impact that those comments create for our board and community relations.”
Audio of Sullivan’s statement in its entirety is available on WBHF Community Radio’s website.
