Bartow, Cartersville Schools Announce Dec. 11 Schedules

The National Weather Service said several metro Atlanta counties could have black ice on roadways early Tuesday morning.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Students in the Cartersville City and Bartow County school systems will have a chance to sleep in on Tuesday, as both districts have announced they will operate on a two-hour delay Dec. 11.

The National Weather Service issued a warning indicating that several metro Atlanta counties may have black ice on roadways as temperatures plunge below freezing early Tuesday morning.

For Cartersville City students, buses will pick up pupils two hours later. Classes at Kids & Co. Pre-K, Cartersville Primary and Cartersville Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. For Cartersville Middle and High school students, your classes will begin at 10:30 a.m. Please note that school dismissal times will not change.

"Remember to drive safely and allow extra travel time in the morning," Cartersville City Schools said on its Facebook page. "We look forward to seeing students in the morning!"

BCSS said it will also open its offices and begin classes on a two-hour delay. Bartow buses will also pick up students two hours later than normal. Parents and students should note that breakfast will not be served Tuesday, but the lunch schedule will remain the same.

English Language Arts End of Course Georgia Milestone testing for high school students are canceled and will be rescheduled.

"Again, this decision has been made out of an abundance of caution and early enough for our families to plan accordingly," BCSS said on its Facebook page.

Chattahoochee Technical College and Georgia Highlands College also said they will open their respective campuses two hours later on Tuesday. GHC students should check their emails for further instruction regarding final exams, the school said.
