Here are the top five stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Bartow County is using COVID-19 relief funds to pay for school supplies. Teachers commonly have to use their own money for school supplies when a student's family can't, so the county is hoping to lift that burden for both families and teachers by putting the federal funds to use. In an announcement this week, the district said it will cover supplies like paper towels, bleach wipes, loose-leaf paper, crayons, pencils, notebooks, and binders to save parents the hundreds of dollars families may be spending on school supplies each year. 2. Looking for something fun to do? The Bartow County Championship rodeo continues today, Jul. 9! Food and drink will be available for purchase benefitting Bartow County Saddle Club, and there will be a petting zoo, pony rides, and more. The rodeo takes place at Bartow County Saddle Club Covered Arena, at 43 Saddle Club Drive (off Burnt Hickory Road) in Cartersville. Gates open at 6:00 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 8:00 p.m. (Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau)
