Bartow State Legislators Win Re-Election Bids

Incumbent Republicans will return to the Georgia House and Senate to represent Bartow County residents.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — Bartow County incumbent state legislators will return to the Georgia General Assembly to represent constituents in their respective districts. According to unofficial results on the Georgia Secretary of State's website, incumbents in the Georgia House and Senate have won additional two-year terms to serve residents under the Gold Dome.

With 100 percent of the vote in for the Senate District 14 race, incumbent Republican Bruce Thompson defeated Democrat Rachel Kinsey with 49,735 votes to the challenger's 19,977 votes. Senate District 14 represents parts of Bartow and Cherokee counties.

With all precincts reporting, Chuck Hufstetler, the Republican representing the District 52 seat, appears to have defeated Democrat Evan Ross to serve in the Georgia State Senate. Hufstetler is polling at 42,379 votes to Ross's 13,539 votes. That district includes parts of Bartow, Gordon and Floyd counties. Incumbent Republicans Trey Kelley of House District 16 and Matthew Gambill of House District 15, both ran unopposed and were re-elected.

At the federal level, Rep. Barry Loudermilk cruised to victory in his re-election bid in the 11th Congressional District. With 100 percent of precincts reporting in the district, Loudermilk leads Democrat Flynn Broady with 186,791 votes while the Democrat received 111,629 votes. The 11th Congressional District includes Bartow and Cherokee counties and parts of Cobb and North Fulton counties.

Republicans were also elected to the Bartow County School Board. Tony Ross, ousted incumbent John Howard in the May 22 primary, defeated Democrat Larry Slocum with 5,311 to 1,369 votes to claim the District 1 seat.

District 3 incumbent Derek Keeney, also a Republican, claimed victory against Democrat Willie Coombs with 4,096 to 1,415 votes. District 2 School board member-elect Terry Lee Eggert defeated incumbent Davis Nelson in the May 2018 primary and had no opposition in the Nov. 6 election.

Finally, in Kingston, voters in that city elected Larry Posey to fill the unexpired term of City Councilman Harold Posey, who died in July. Posey defeated challenger Roxie Pritchett with 115 votes. Pritchett garnered 85 votes.

The race for governor remains tight, as Republican Brian Kemp continues to hold a slightly dwindling lead over Democrat Stacey Abrams in that historic election to become the next leader of the Peach State. In other Congressional races, 6th Congressional District incumbent Republican Karen Handel holds a very slim lead over Democrat Lucy McBath. In the 7th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. Rob Woodall maintains his lead over Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux.
