Bartow Students ​Named Semifinalists In Governor's Honor Program

BARTOW COUNTY, GA — A group of Bartow County students are making their mark this year in the Georgia Governor's Honors Program, the school system announced on Tuesday.

The six students include five musicians and a writer who have all been named as semifinalists in the honors program. They are set to interview or audition in the spring, and finalists and alternatives will be announced on March 26, the school said.

Finalists will go on to compete in a residential in-person program at Berry College this summer.

“What valuable additions to the program,” honor program coordinator Paula Camp said in a statement. “In this extraordinary group, you’ll find civic-minded AP students who write poetry and short stories and musicians who perform in metro Atlanta every week or teach bass guitar on the weekends. These are special students who have the determination and grit to be successful well beyond their high school and college careers.”

The students are:

• Cass High School junior Camden Briggs — Music: Percussion
• Cass High School sophomore Jacques Denoux — Music: Acoustic or Electric Bass
• Woodland High School junior Benjamin Novo — Music: Trombone
• Woodland High School junior Caden Wolf — Music: Percussion
• Woodland High School junior Jayla Chastain — Communicative Arts
• Woodland High School sophomore Jackson Tadlock — Music: Saxophone
