The Bartow County man, who was shot and killed by SWAT, was accused of threatening his wife, witnesses and authorities at the scene.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A 60-year-old Adairsville man was shot and killed by a Bartow County SWAT officer after being accused of pointing a long gun at authorities and threatening them.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Bartow deputies responded Sunday to a Wesley Mill Drive home, where Chris Cochran was accused of threatening his wife and a responding crisis intervention team.

Authorities said Cochran's wife and the intervention team took shelter at a neighbor's house, where deputies responded to protect them.

Cochran, who authorities said was known to have a large amount of rifles in his home, was accused of breaking windows and threatening to kill others after running into his house.

SWAT was then deployed to assist at the scene. Authorities said Cochran pointed a long gun out of a second story window and continued to threaten authorities and witnesses.

Once the GBI's investigation is complete, the file will be given to the Cherokee Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
