Bartow to Hold Hearings for Proposed Tax Increase
Public can weigh in on possible increases on July 17 & 24.

Bartow citizens are invited to tell the county what they think about a proposed 24.1 percent property tax increase at three public hearings:
- Wednesday, July 17, 10 a.m.
- Wednesday, July 17, 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, July 24, 9 a.m.
The county is proposing to raise property taxes by 25.2 percent for unincorporated areas and 21.2 percent for incorporated areas over the rollback millage rate — that's 24.1 percent for the county as a whole, $5.9 million more than last year, and more taxes than it collected in any other year since before 2008.Â
According to a press release from the county, Bartow is required to increase the millage rate in order to balance the budget and stop spending its reserve funds.Â
The county says the increase is necessary because revenue is down and expenses have already been cut dramatically.
