Bomb Threat Reported In Cartersville
BREAKING: Cartersville police say the threat made Thursday afternoon appear to be related to threats made across the country.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A bomb threat reported Thursday afternoon in Cartersville appears to be part of messages surfacing in cities across metro Atlanta and the country as a whole, officials said.
Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer said the agency was informed of an online threat made to the area of South Erwin Street.
"It appears to be a nationwide online threat to several locations," he said. No device was found, as the threat was communicated through the internet, Lt. Bettikofer told Patch.

Several threats have been made around metro Atlanta, and has led to evacuations at the Cobb County courthouse. Businesses in Gwinnett County have also reported receiving threats. The FBI said it's helping local entities with their investigation of these threats.
"We are aware of the recent bomb threats made in cities around the country, and we remain in touch with our law enforcement partners to provide assistance," the FBI said. "As always, we encourage the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report suspicious activities which could represent a threat to public safety."

Five DeKalb County schools were locked down Thursday morning after each of them received bomb threats. Dunwoody police said at 7:22 am Thursday morning, someone called in a bomb threat to Dunwoody Elementary School. The DeKalb County school district said public safety officers were sent to each school to assist with local police in determining the validity of the threats. None of the threats were found to be credible.
