Cartersville Man Brandishes Knife During Incident With Officers

The man was accused of refusing to drop the knife until a K9 Unit arrived.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A man was accused of pulling out a knife on Cartersville police officers Monday night in the area of East Church and Stonewall streets, police said.

Officers were responding around 9:45 p.m. to a domestic incident, when they found the Cartersville man in front of a nearby bank.

Police said the man took off running through the parking lot, stopped, threw down his backpack and brandished a knife. Officers gave the man commands to drop the knife, but he did not comply, police said.

Officers used a Taser twice but failed to make a successful connection, police said. A K9 Unit with the Bartow County Sheriff's Office arrived, and once faced with the canine, police said the man threw the knife down and complied.

The man, identified by police as 32-year-old Richard Bagley, was charged on suspicion of aggravated assault against a peace officer, felony obstruction and two counts of misdemeanor obstruction, police said.
