Cartersville Man Charged With Aggravated Assault In Police Shooting

No one was injured in a Sunday police shooting in the area of Highway 41 South and Market Place Boulevard.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The man accused in a police shooting Sunday afternoon in the area of Highway 41 South and Market Place Boulevard was identified Monday.

Cartersville Police said Sunday officers were responding around 3:15 p.m. to an accident in the area, when they were told a man was walking in the road with a gun.

When they arrived, police said the man shot at the officers. The officers shot back, but no one was injured in the shooting, police said.

Police identified the man as Shane Jacquez Barfield, 37, of Cartersville. Barfield was charged on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving stolen property (firearm) and possession of methamphetamine.
