Cartersville Price Tag-Swapping Suspects Arrested

CARTERSVILLE, GA — The man and woman accused of scanning the price tags of Kool-Aid packets in place of the actual items they "purchased" from Walmart have been arrested. That's according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, which on Monday announced the arrest of Zachary Onassis Holmes, 41, and Terra Rae Saaed, 38, both of Cartersville.

According to a Walmart asset protection employee who reported the alleged theft to a sheriff's deputy, an unknown male and female "acting in concert" took packets of Kool-Aid and placed them under items they were "buying," thus scanning the much cheaper item instead of the original product, an incident report from the Bartow County Sheriff's Office said.

BCSO notes the shoplifting incidents involving the use of a Georgia EBT food stamp card began July 21 and occurred on numerous occasions through Oct. 11. The employee said the alleged scheme deprived the store of about $350 in items.

"These transactions often took place with the same male and female couple from surveillance video," the sheriff's office said.

After scanning the packets in place of the more expensive items, BCSO said the two would pay for the items using an EBT card.

Holmes is charged with three counts of misdemeanor theft by shoplifting while Saaed is charged with 12 counts of misdemeanor theft by shoplifting. Holmes has been released from the Bartow County Jail after posting a $3,000 bond while Saaed is being held on an $11,000 bond.
