CARTERSVILLE — Emergency shelter-in-place declarations addressing the coronavirus outbreak took effect at 5 p.m. Friday for the City of Cartersville and Bartow County. Both declarations, which are largely the same, were issued Thursday afternoon. “It was really important for us to have similar ordinances,” Cartersville Mayor Matt Santini told The Daily Tribune News.

All parks are closed, as are gyms, spas and “body care services” such as barber shops and tattoo parlors. Gatherings of 10 or more people are prohibited. Exemptions include grocery stores, gas stations and banks.

Both Santini and Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor say they’re considering financial-relief measures for citizens. Neither plans to cut off utilities for nonpayment.
