GOP Straw Poll Has Candidates Neck and Neck

Bartow County Republican Party released the results of its Independence Day Straw Poll conducted at Dellinger Park in Cartersville.

The 225 straw poll ballots collected July 4 by the local GOP may indicate several tight local races for the July 31 Republican primary.

Bartow County Republican Party's Independence Day Straw Poll—which is not scientific—was conducted during at in Cartersville following a parade downtown.

In poll results, two candidates for Bartow commissioner were neck and neck—Michael Abernathy and Steve Taylor. But two more—Mike Bearden and Tracy Lewis—were not far behind.

Sheriff Clark Millsap got 15 more votes than challenger Dan Knowles, while 60 percent of straw poll voters went for Greg Bowen over Anna Sullivan in the county school board District 5 race.
