Handcuffs Lead to Jail for Couple Accused in Kidnapping

The Paducah, KY, duo was attempting to retrieve an allegedly stolen truck.

A Kentucky couple accused of kidnapping a man in the city of White, just outside Cartersville in Bartow County, used handcuffs, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The alleged victim, a 23-year-old man from Paducah, KY, had allegedly taken a truck—a 1998 Ford F-150—that belonged to the boss of another Paducah man.

John Michael Mullins, 40, and Eve Marie Cates, 42, also of Paducah, had allegedly planned to use handcuffs in an attempt to retrieve the truck, which had been reported stolen.

Mullins, who admitted to having pepper spray, but denied having a gun, allegedly handcuffed the victim and forced him to leave in Mullins' vehicle.

He was charged with kidnapping under the Family Violence Act and possession of a Schedule IV substance for alleged Xanax found in the couple's Camry.
