Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
- Blood Assurance, a non-profit in Rome, Georgia, is actively seeking and in dire need of blood donors. The group has three centers in the state, and the other two are located in Cartersville and Dalton. Usually, donations are sought out via schools and universities, but with the school year ending, they are worried if they'll be able to continue helping local hospitals. (11 Alive)
- Live 2540, an organization founded by Daryl Roberts in Cartersville, is dedicated to helping children battling hunger and illnesses globally. Initially focusing on Liberia, the charity has expanded its efforts to countries like Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, and the Philippines. Their current major project involves building the Walker Phillips Critical Care and Malnutrition Ward, a pediatric clinic in Liberia named after Walker Phillips, a young boy who tragically died in a house fire in Cartersville. (Fox 5 News)
- The Cartersville Area Writers Group, an organization formed by the Calhoun Area Writers, is hosting its first annual writer's conference. The conference aims to provide local authors a platform to promote their works and offer aspiring writers the chance to learn from keynote speaker Lauretta Hannon and other regional authors. Taking place on May 20 in Cartersville, the event will feature presentations by Ann Hite and speed presenters, as well as the opportunity for aspiring authors to receive critiques through Colorful Crow Publishing.
