An air ambulance landed in Cartersville on Thursday due to a man's attempted suicide, according to the Cartersville Police Department report.
A woman called police shortly after 11 a.m. to report the man, who had been staying in her South Erwin Street apartment, was suicidal and had two guns.
When police arrived, they spotted the 25-year-old man lying face down in the grass behind the apartment. An officer told the man to show his hands, but instead he shot himself in the right side of the head, according to the report.
The man, who fired a .22 H&R revolver, was breathing and had a pulse, but was unresponsive. He was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
