Bartow Students Sickened After Eating Drug-Laced Candy
Bartow County school police officers believe a South Central Middle School eighth-grade student sold the candy to a few other students.

EMERSON, GA — The Bartow County School System said charges could be forthcoming for a student accused of selling drug-laced candy to eighth-grade students at South Central Middle School.
The system said officers with the Bartow County School Police Department believe an eighth-grade student "sold a small amount of candy suspected to be laced with a controlled substance to a few other eighth-grade students."
Two South Central students were transported to an area hospital Wednesday, Oct. 31, and others were evaluated after ingesting the candy. The controlled substance has not been identified.

BCSS spokesperson Alisha Evans said that based on the investigation conducted by the School Police Department, it believes the incident affecting the two students was "isolated."
Charges could also be filed in connection to the incident.
