Here are the top five stories today in Cartersville:

  1. Terminus Wake Park will host a clinic for shredders aged 5 to 8 today, Jul. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Staff will slow the beginner cable to super slow speeds, as well as provide extra coaching and access to the 2.0 trainer cable.   2. A local high school senior has been named as a finalist for a statewide scholarship program. Ava Helton of Cartersville is one of nine participants selected for the Distinguished Young Women of Georgia State Finals. The showcase will take place on Jul. 23 at 5 p.m. at the Celebration Hall of Hillside United Methodist Church near Woodstock. (Northwest Georgia News)
  3. A Cartersville man has been charged after Rome police found a glass smoking device with meth residue inside his vehicle. Paul Alan Timmer, 43, allegedly gave a false name to authorities during the stop. Timmer was also reportedly driving with a suspended license and had two warrants out for his arrest in Bartow County.   4. The Bartow County Library System is offering free, interactive lessons on housing rights and responsibilities. Georgia tenants can learn more about landlords, repair issues, or evictions. Lessons can be accessed online. (Bartow County Library System via Facebook)
  5. Five additional cases of monkeypox have been reported in Georgia, bringing the total number of cases here up to 13. The first confirmed case in the state was detected in a man from the Atlanta metro area. According to Georgia Department of Public Health spokesperson Nancy Nydam, Georgia's first allocation of orthopox vaccines will include 1,284 doses. (Georgia Patch)
