Giving CVS, which operates three Cartersville locations, and Rite Aid some competition, Walgreens opened Friday its new store in downtown Cartersville.

It's across the street from a CVS store and not far from a former Rite Aid location on Main Street.

Grand opening specials included a deal on soft drinks and Walgreens is offering a $25 gift certificate to customers who transfer their prescriptions.

Yours truly goes local on prescription medications with Holt's, but don't mind taking advantage of a good deal on drinks or toothpaste at a national chain pharmacy.
