Woman Gets Prison, Probation For Triggering Fatal I-75 Wreck
A Cedartown woman receives jail time and probation for triggering a fatal 2018 three-car wreck on I-75 near the Groovers Landing overpass.
BARTOW COUNTY — A Cedartown woman was sentenced Tuesday to prison and probation for triggering a fatal accident on Interstate 75 in Bartow County in 2018, reports WBHF Community Radio. Evelyn Delores Nowell, 73, pleaded guilty before Judge Jeff Watkins Tuesday morning and was sentenced to five years — one year of incarceration plus four years of probation — with credit for time already served.
Charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and stopping on the roadway, Nowell has been in jail since the November 2018 accident.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Nowell had stopped on I-75 near the Groovers Landing overpass, causing a tractor-trailer to swerve to avoid her. The tractor-trailer then struck another car, killing Bobbie Whitman, 56, and seriously injuring Robert Whitman, 49, both of Emerson.
