Man Shot and Killed by Police at West End Mall

9:00 p.m. Wednesday night an APD officer shot and killed a suspect at West End Mall

A suspect was shot and killed by an Atlanta Police Department officer on Wednesday night at West End Mall in Southwest Atlanta.

(Note: This happened just hours after we left the mall and covered the Free HIV Testing Event that was such a nice event and attended by 200 or more people.)

According to WSB-TV, a witness told them that he, "just saw the truck at the front, and then the police pulled in, I think maybe three, and they jumped out and yelled, 'Freeze,' and a little after that, I heard the shots and people started running towards us,".

The man was shot in his SUV, and another suspect was arrested.

WSB also talked to a woman that said she was with the suspect just before the shooting occurred and that they were basically minding their own business and talking in the West End Mall parking lot. More from the witness is in WSB's reporting, and she may end up being key to what happened.

We contacted the APD and they would only release this statement:

Due to the number of officers involved, the size and complexity of the crime scene and the fact that it resulted in a fatality we have asked for the GBI to assist to ensure an objective and thorough investigation.

Further information will have to come from them.
