Senior Citizen Voters living at Collegetown were Purged from Voter Registration List

Elderly voters given a scare when told they could not vote.

Fulton County Department of Registration & Elections made a huge mistake when they sent letters to senior citizens living at The Atrium at Collegetown at 435 Joseph Lowery Blvd.Β  The letters said that their property/address did not exist and that the property had been demolished and they would no longer be able to vote using that address.

Of course, the residents who live in the new residential center were dumbfounded.Β  The property obviously exists, the address is correct and why are they being told that their names are being removed from voter registration unless they can prove their address exists.

After a few days of calling, the residents of The Atrium at Collegetown were finally able to get some closure on the manner.Β  The Fulton County Office of Communication released this statement:

A further review confirmed that all addresses at 435 E. Joseph Lowery Blvd. were accurate and current, since a new senior living development located at that address (The Atrium at College Town) has the same address as a previous property at that address that was demolished.Β  Upon confirmation of this information, all registered voters at that address were mailed a subsequent notice informing them that they would not need to attend a hearing to confirm their address.

In a CBS report residents went on camera to express their surprise and concern that the government can just decide to take people off of the Voter Registration log with the excuse of abandoned property, without ever sending someone out to check whether the property is actually abandoned.Β  Obviously if they would have sent anyone to 435 Lowery Blvd., they would have seen a mid-rise , new vibrant building with hundreds of residents.
