Foster A Dog, Save A Life: LifeLine Reaches Max Capacity, Again
LifeLine is sending an urgent plea for 2-week foster homes as the Fulton and DeKalb shelters reach capacity for the second time in a month.
DEKALB COUNTY, GA — LifeLine Animal Project's DeKalb and Fulton animal shelters are at maximum capacity for the second time in a month, and shelter officials are urgently pleading with the community to consider fostering dogs for just two weeks.
Last month, LifeLine found forever homes for 400 cats and dogs thanks to its emergency adoption event, where all adoption fees were waived. However, the shelters are full once again due to a combination of lost pets and spring babies now entering shelters, according to a news release from LifeLine.
The animal nonprofit is once again asking for the community's help. Nonprofit leaders are asking anyone willing to open up their homes and hearts to a shelter dog — temporarily — with a goal of placing 125 dogs in foster homes over the next two weeks (July 28-Aug. 11).

"Fostering a pet for any amount of time helps reduce overcrowding and opens up space for another animal to be saved. It also puts animals in a less stressful environment where their personalities can shine, allowing potential adopters to see what the animals are like in homes and facilitating quicker adoptions," the release said. "It’s a great way for people who cannot have an animal permanently, due to work travel or other commitments, to experience the love of an animal while saving a life."
And for those who don’t want to foster because they worry it will be too hard when their dog gets adopted or goes back to the shelter, Michelle Harmon, LifeLine Fulton County Animal Services foster supervisor, said the payoff from fostering a pet will remind you why you did it in the first place.

“While it may be difficult to say goodbye initially, seeing the pup find a home and the satisfaction you’ll get from knowing that you saved their life will make it all worth it,” says Michelle.
