Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- On Sunday evening, Douglasville Police responded to a shooting at Arbor Place Mall, where a 16-year-old boy was suffering gunshot injuries in his leg. His injuries were not fatal or life-threatening, but he was transported to the hospital after the incident. Police found marijuana at the scene and are currently working to determine who the suspects are. No other information is available right now. (Douglasville Police Department via Facebook)
- After a shooting that took place in Lithia Springs – just 10 minutes outside Douglasville –over a year ago, the man responsible has finally been convicted of several charges, including aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. Douglas County resident, Mike Clark, 39, shot two people in the legs at the Budgetel Inn & Suites in Lithia Springs in Apr. 2021. His charges have just been placed, but his sentencing has yet to be decided. (WSB-TV 2)
- The Douglas County School System will be holding a Virtual Meeting for Spanish-speaking families on Aug. 10 at 5:00 p.m. The link to the meeting is on their website, as well as more information written in Spanish about the details of the event. (Douglas County School System)
- The Douglasville Police Department will have its 'The Night of the Blue Lights Car Show' this Saturday, Aug. 6! The event will serve as a special Olympics fundraiser. There will be awards, raffles, prizes and fun for the whole family! (Douglas County Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- An Alexander High School alumni and Indiana linebacker, Aaron Casey, was recently chosen by the Indiana coaching staff to represent George Taliaferro's legacy by wearing the No. 44 jersey during the 2022 college football season. Taliaferro was the first African American drafted by an NFL team and played at Indiana from 1945 to 1948. (Hoosiers Now)
