  1. Want to learn more about how the City of Douglasville works? Registration for the next annual Dose of Douglasville Citizens Academy is open now. The 10-week program will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and will include an overview of the City government and pertinent information from City departments.   2. Douglas County Animal Services is hosting its annual Clear the Shelter event all month long. Throughout August, adoption fees will be waived on all residents six months and older.   3. Local law enforcement escorted the children of a fallen police officer on their first day of school this week. Fairburn Police Department officer Sgt. Jean-Harold Astree passed away in a car accident in Douglas County on Jul. 28 at the age of 54.   5. The Cultural Arts Center of Douglasville has launched a new Free Art Box, a colorful crayon box full of free art and art supplies to be shared with the community. Visitors are encouraged to leave small art, take small art, or just enjoy the pieces for a while.
