Delta Sigma Theta Alums Honored For Service By Douglas County Board

Alumni of Delta Sigma Theta, a historically Black sorority, were recognized Tuesday by the Douglas County Board for their community service.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — Alumni of a historically Black sorority were recognized Tuesday night by the board of commissioners for their service to Douglas County.

The Douglas-Carroll-Paulding Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was honored by unanimous proclamation for 15 years of community service, said Douglas County spokesperson Rick Martin.

“Thank you for always showing up in the community,” said Vice Chair-elect and District 3 Commissioner Tarenia Carthan. “Your sisterhood of service has indeed been a blessing to the citizens you have served over the last 15 years.”

Nearly two dozen members of the sorority, dressed in crimson and cream, accepted the award at Tuesday’s board meeting.

According to a statement from Douglas County, Delta Sigma Theta has addressed a wide variety of issues in its 109-year history, including education, health, international development and the strengthening of African American families.

Delta Sigma Theta was founded in 1913 by 22 female students at Howard University. The Douglas-Carroll-Paulding alumni chapter was chartered in 2007.
