The Alabama man was convicted of murder in the June 2014 death of Janice Pitts.

Dewey Green, the Alabama man convicted of murder in the 2014 death of a Douglas County grandmother during a bizarre traffic incident, will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Green, 24, of Pelham, was sentenced by Judge David T. Emerson to life without parole around 10:15 a.m. Monday in Douglasville, according to a live-stream of the court proceedings on WSBTV.com
A Douglas County jury convicted Green Friday of malice murder and felony murder in the June 25, 2014 death of Janice Pitts, 53, on Ga. Highway 5 near Interstate 20. Prosecutors said Green rammed into Pitts’ vehicle several times, pinned her against her vehicle and then backed over her.

Greeen made a statement during the hearing, once again asserting that he doesn’t remember the incident and was unconscious after suffering a seizure. “This was absolutely not intentional,” he said.
Three members of Pitts’ family also made statements about what her loss means to the family. Janice Pitts was portrayed as a two-time cancer survivor and family matriach who had much to look forward to in the future. One daughter voiced her anger toward Green, telling him that she hopes he will be haunted by what he has done. “I don’t forgive you and I never will,” she said.
The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, between the Walgreen’s and Waffle House on Highway 5, involving a red Lincoln Navigator driven by Pitts and a black Chevrolet Silverado driven by Greeen.
According to media reports after the incident, Pitts was on her way to a Lowe’s nearby and was turning left from Highway 5 onto Douglas Boulevard when Green rear-ended her car three times, backing up before the second and third collisions. Police said when Pitts got out to check damage, Green pinned her between the two cars, then ran over her.
Green testified that he doesn’t remember the incident happening. He told the court he remembers starting his truck after stopping at a gas station for a soft drink, but nothing else until police were pulling him from his vehicle.
