Douglasville Man Shot Dead Saturday, Son Charged With Murder: Sheriff

The son of a Douglasville man found "shot and killed" Saturday turned himself in to authorities that night. He's now charged with murder.

DOUGLASVILLE, GA — An Augusta-area man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his father in Douglasville, authorities said.

In addition to a murder charge, Javon Earl Kyler, 22, of Hepzibah also faces aggravated assault and aggravated stalking charges.

Kyler is being held in the Douglas County Jail awaiting a bond hearing, according to Douglas County Sheriff’s Office online records.

The murder, assault and stalking charges against Kyler stem from the death of his father, Earl Kyler, 58. Douglas County sheriff’s deputies found the elder Kyler “shot and killed” around midday Saturday at his home on Fall Creek Trace, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

After investigators identified Javon Kyler as responsible for his father’s death, the statement continued, they secured warrants for his arrest. Javon turned himself in late Saturday night after family members told him he was being pursued.
