  1. Come join the Douglasville Police Department on Aug. 1 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. for a community event. This gathering offers a chance to interact with local law enforcement, ask questions, and get to know your neighbors. Enjoy free admission, food like hot dogs and hamburgers, kids' activities, giveaway items, touch a truck experience, music, and more! For additional information, contact Sgt.   2. On Aug. 1, there will be a BOC/Planning and Zoning meeting at Citizens' Hall, Douglas County Courthouse, at 6:00 p.m. The agenda includes discussions on warehouses and rental townhomes proposed in the area.   3. The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is a citizen science project led by the University of Georgia, aimed at engaging everyone in pollinator conservation efforts. The project encourages participation from all to make a meaningful impact on pollinator populations. Yesterday morning (Jul. 26), Ms. Kristi, the Douglas County Public Library's children's specialist, teamed up with the West Georgia Regional Library System Bookmobile at Hunter Park to distribute library information and cool items, and allow book checkouts.   5. On Jul. 25, the ACE Unit conducted search warrants on two residences in nearby Carroll County after a months-long investigation into opioid pill distribution. The detectives seized a substantial quantity of Oxycodone pills, some suspected to be pressed Fentanyl, Amphetamine pills, Methadone pills, Suboxone strips, firearms, and currency. As a result, Billy Daniel Sr., age 45, was arrested and charged with various drug-related offenses and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The ACE Unit, comprising investigators from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Carrollton Police Department, and University of West Georgia Police Department, remains dedicated to proactively prosecuting narcotics distribution in Carroll County.   • During the past week, three Douglas County school officers attended the prestigious G.R.E.A.T training, which stands for Gang Resistance Education And Training. G.R.E.A.T is an evidence-based violence and gang prevention program that involves law enforcement officers instructing classroom curricula in schools. Officers Jackson, Hyatt, and Lossa successfully completed the training and are now certified G.R.E.A.T instructors. Congratulations to them on this achievement!
