Here are the top five stories in Douglasville today:
- Keep Douglasville Beautiful is hosting a drive-thru Electronics and Metal Recycling Event on Saturday, Oct. 7. Residents can drop off electronics, scrap metal, appliances, and more at the event, which will be held at the overflow parking lot of First Presbyterian Church in Douglasville. There is a $5 charge for each monitor or TV dropped off, while all other items can be recycled for free. Additionally, the Douglas County Lions Club will collect eyeglasses and hearing aids and offer BBQ plates for $6 and whole Boston Butts for $35. For more information, click here or call 770-920-3005. - A 43-year-old man named Jeremy Kemp has pleaded guilty to trafficking cocaine in Douglas County. In December 2020, Douglasville officers responded to complaints of illegal drug activity at a local gas station, where they observed suspicious activity involving Kemp's blue Hyundai Tucson. Upon apprehending Kemp, who attempted to flee but tripped over a trashcan, the officers discovered two clear plastic bags containing 42 grams of crack cocaine in his car. Kemp had prior convictions for selling illegal drugs in Douglas County and was on probation and parole at the time — he was sentenced to 30 years with 20 years in confinement, along with banishment from Douglas County. - In an effort to make Douglasville more accessible, the community is invited to attend an ADA Transition Plan Meeting on Sep. 23 at 9:00 a.m. at Hunter Park. The meeting will address ADA improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all residents. - The highly anticipated 2023 Night of the Blue Lights Car Show was a success, and organizers have expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the event over the weekend.
