Elementary Kids Dismissed Early First 3 Days, Other School News

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA – Elementary schools will release students early on the first three days of school. Dismissal time for August 8, 9, and 10 will be 2:15 p.m.

The early release allows bus drivers extra time to set their routes for younger students riding a school bus for the first time and allows younger students an opportunity to acclimate to the school day.

On Monday, Aug. 13, elementary students will be dismissed at the regular time of 2:45 p.m.

Dear Parents, Staff, and Community,

Welcome to a new school year!

The enthusiasm our 270 new teachers displayed during our New Teacher Orientation and the excitement in the air at our Launch Party for all teachers and staff on August 2 convinced me that 2018-2019 will be a stellar year for our school system. I am confident that our teachers will be ready on August 8 to lead our students to great academic achievement.

Members of our Operations Department have worked tirelessly this summer to improve our facilities. In particular, the beautiful addition at Lithia Springs Elementary is ready for students, and the exterior "facelift" at Lithia Springs High School has given the building a new, fresh look. We know that parents want to feel good about the facility where their students spend their day, and well-maintained campuses are a source of pride for the community.

I appreciate all the support from the community for our school system. Douglas County is truly a great place to live, work, and learn.

New Website, New Email Addresses

The Douglas County School System debuted a new website on August 1. The school system hopes parents will find it useful and user-friendly. Be aware that school websites are still a work in progress. The school system appreciate your patience as we tweak them over the next few weeks.

The school system also has a new and improved (and shorter!) web address! You will now find us at: dcssga.org

Sending an email to your favorite teacher will now be quicker. The new and shorted format for email addresses for all employees is: First.Last@dcssga.org.
